Do you have a regular menstrual cycle? Are there any elapsed days between your periods? As a mom-to-be, you need to have such information pieces. Here is how you can find out if you have no exact idea about your menstrual cycle and their time:

  • Mark the day on a calendar when you have a period. It is day 1. You have to count every day until you have the next period
  • Get an accurate idea about the length of regularity of your menstrual cycle by marking and counting the days for 3-4 months continuously. On average, a menstrual cycle lasts for 28 days. However, it can be anything between 23b to 35/40 days in length for some of you. Further, the length of your menstrual cycle can differ from one month to another

Determine the days of your ovulation

You can conceive when you make love with your spouse during your ovulation days (fertile days). During the ovulation, one of your ovaries releases an egg and the egg travels to one of your fallopian tubes. Here you need to know your most fertile days. And you can do it by following the below-mentioned steps:

  • In the case of a regular menstrual cycle,  simple mathematical calculation can help you determine when you will have ovulation. In general, ovulation takes place 14 days before the next menstrual period starts if your menstrual cycle is normal, 28 days. You can ovulate on day 14 in a 28-day menstrual cycle. You will ovulate on day 16 if you have a 30-day menstrual cycle. Similarly, you can have ovulation on day 12 if you have a 26-day menstrual cycle.
  • If your menstrual cycle is irregular, you need to record your basal body temperature. During ovulation days or before the occurrence of ovulation, there is a slight increase in your basal body temperature. Further, You need to use an ovulation prediction kit that you can buy online or from your local medical store. The kit measures the level of LH (luteinizing hormone) in your urine. You will notice a rise in LH levels before ovulation. Furthermore, you need to have a close look at your cervical mucus. Watching cervical mucus can give you an idea about whether you are in a fertile period or not. Before ovulation, your cervical mucus is slippery, clear, and stretchy. It can be similar to raw egg whites. After ovulation, it gets thicker  and dries up gradually.

Find out when to have physical intimacy for baby making

After knowing your ovulation cycle clearly, you need to know the right time to sex to conceive. You might be late if you make love after ovulation. Most reproductive health experts advise to sex each day or each other day, starting from around 5 days before ovulation. Usually, your pregnancy is higher on a day before ovulation. And it gets down to 30 % a day after ovulation or 8% 7 days before ovulation.

Having unprotected sex on a day before ovulation works better. It is, as a male’s sperm can survive for 3-5 days inside the fallopian tubes or uterus of a female.
